From Mahadev Reddy to Amanpreet Singh Khalsa Ji: A Journey of Transformation and Inspiration

Date of Experience: 16th November 2013

There are moments in life when we unexpectedly meet someone who leaves an indelible mark on our hearts. One such unforgettable encounter happened to me on the road to my college. A humble, radiant personality approached me and politely asked for the way to a Gurdwara. What began as a simple conversation soon turned into an inspiring life lesson. I had the honour of meeting Sardar Amanpreet Singh Khalsa Ji, a man with a mission, a story, and a soul dedicated to humanity.

The Beginning: From Mahadev Reddy to Amanpreet Singh

Born as Mahadev Reddy in the serene village of Chikka Tirupati, located on the outskirts of Bangalore, his early years were filled with simplicity and aspiration. At the tender age of 12, he left his village in search of better educational opportunities in Bangalore.

Fate had other plans for him. During his stay in the city, he came across the Sidhpuram Gurudwara, where he was deeply moved by the Sikh way of life — a lifestyle rooted in service, discipline, and spirituality. The powerful teachings and glorious history of Sikhism captivated him.

And then, on a sacred day — 13th April 1977, coinciding with the festival of Baisakhi — Mahadev Reddy was baptized into the Sikh faith. He was renamed Amandeep Singh and embraced his new identity with pride and purpose.

Education, Family, and a Spark of Realization

After his baptism, Amandeep Singh continued his academic journey and graduated from the spiritual city of Anandpur Sahib, a place deeply connected with Sikh heritage.

He built a beautiful life with his family — a loving wife who is a teacher, two daughters, and a son who is now a doctor in the United States. Amandeep Singh himself worked as a teacher and was respected for his commitment to education and values.

However, as he observed his uncle and close friends falling into the traps of alcohol and smoking, a sense of responsibility stirred within him. The sight of intelligent lives being destroyed by addiction ignited a fire that refused to die down.

The Mission: A Life on Wheels for a Noble Cause

In an act of unparalleled commitment, Amandeep Singh Ji resigned from his teaching job to serve a higher purpose — to educate the youth of India about the disastrous effects of drugs, alcohol, and smoking.

With blessings from the Guru Maharaj, on 1st January 2008, he set out on an extraordinary journey across India — on a bicycle. Carrying just the essentials — a mobile phone, laptop, camera, his kirpan (Sri Sahib), and some utensils for preparing langar, weighing about 50 kg — he began pedaling across the country.

His mission was clear: to reach out to schools, colleges, and universities, and spread awareness about addiction, share real-life stories, and encourage students to choose a healthier, pious lifestyle.
